The Indigenous & Chicano Mural Project at Southside Park

  • We are the living breath of ancestors who refused to be forgotten. We are the architects of ancient cities, the keepers of sacred lands, and the resilient bridge between generations. When you look at us, you are seeing centuries of survival, unbroken connection, and a vibrant future being written in real time. We do not just occupy space; we belong to it, and we are exactly who we have always been—undefeated, deeply rooted, and powerful.

  • We open our doors and our hearts to everyone who wishes to walk alongside us, to listen, and to learn. As Indigenous and Chicano people, our identity is woven from centuries of resilience, deep-rooted traditions, vibrant art, and the profound medicine of poetry.

  • Our culture is not a relic of the past; it is a living, breathing testament to who we are today. We believe that knowledge is meant to be shared, and that true community is built when we invite others to understand our roots.

The Indigenous and Chicano Mural Project at Southside Park in Sacramento celebrates our shared history by centering the perspectives of Indigenous and Chicano communities, transforming public space into a vibrant canvas that honors cultural memory, resilience, and identity.

Local artists—many rooted in the very neighborhoods they depict—have collaborated to tell these stories through powerful imagery, traditional motifs, and contemporary techniques, creating murals that educate, inspire, and invite reflection.

By bringing beauty and meaning to the park, the project fosters community pride, offers a public narrative often missing from mainstream histories, and creates an accessible gathering place where art, history, and everyday life intersect.
